This is from an article in London, where cell phones are insanely popular. The results from this study made one company cancel its plans to market a phone at 4 to 8 year olds....good lord.....

A study in Sweden has shown that they are twice as common in mobile phone users
They were also four times as common on the side of the head where the phone was held
Acoustic neuromas occur in 100,000 people a year and can cause deafness
They can be treated by surgery. In most cases the patient’s hearing is saved
Brain tumours affect about 4,700 new patients a year in Britain
They are becoming more common — the UK Brain Tumour Society says that incidence has increased by 45 per cent in 30 years
The causes of primary brain tumours are unknown, so it is hard to identify specific risk factors

With no way to know that there is no risk, no long history of usuage, it seems merely reasonable not to expose young children to radiation sources (even non-iodizing ones). As http://www.ehso.com/ehshome/cellphonecancer.php points out, even if the only proven effect is mild heating of promixal tissues, it still makes sense to take prudent precautions!
But, that is not the same things as a knee-jerk panic and the hype we see surrounding ordinary usuage by adults of digital low-voltage cell phone... just a wee bit of common sense regarding an risk which is presently unknown. As it is logically impossible to prove a negative (such as, "the sun will not rise tomorrow", "a cell phone can not hurt you"), that is not the same thing as saying they opposite ("a cell phone WILL hurt you").
It's presently unknown, studies continue, and only time will tell... so use your brain, rather than heat your brain, and minimize unneceesary exposure in the meantime...
