pornographied

This is a great pair of articles from New York magazine on modern porn
consumption and its effects.

"It's just something to amuse you when you're bored," he says. "It's just
there--like white noise."

I find it really fascinating the way people can get addicted to porn. I
don't know why it becomes so fiendish, possibly because there is still some
level of taboo and shame left... I always seem to read about men describing
themselves being devoured by it....yes, you can read into that....

And a commentary on the situation by Naomi Wolf:

Sort of predictable - "The onslaught of porn is responsible for deadening
male libido in relation to real women, and leading men to see fewer and
fewer women as 'porn-worthy.'" - and she gets quite carried away with the
"other cultures" but it's interesting. I like her description of sex in the
70s: "If there was nothing actively alarming about you, you could get a
pretty enthusiastic response by just showing up."

Of course, both articles completely ignore the fact that there exist women
who are into porn as well... for a more femme-friendly take on porn and the

The author of that article went to NYU. I had
journalism classes with him. Maybe it is the fact
that he always acted like a pompous asshole, and I
never really liked him, but I didn't really think the article was anything special. I mean seriously, a lot of men are looking at porn, and it is becoming a problem. Please is this really news? If more women than ever are getting involved in porno, then shouldn't it help these men find "porn star" quality girls? Especially with sites like suicidegirls.com that highlight naked Williamsburg chicks, it should broaden the perspective of what is considered "porn star hot". If you can't get laid in NYC, its probably
because you are socially dysfunctional. Logic would have it that a "rising star" at a law firm or in publishing should have plenty of opportunities to get laid. I noticed walking around the other day, that 50% of city is pretty hot, and very "fuckable". I think the guys in this article are probably just losers who need to work on their social skills, the fact that they rely on porn to get off, is just a manifestation of their lack of social skills.

Either all that stuff I just said, or maybe its the fact that I hate the author, but lets be honest men jerking off excessively is not news! Maybe we are just starting to reach a point in terms of content where supply can match demand. And in case you were wondering yes I have looked at Internet porn, but no i don't use it every time I pleasure myself.

peace,

Jesse

youre too funny jesse.
but yeah, i can totally see what you mean.
men jacking off - big whoop. the article itself is sort of a form of intellectual masturbation. and yeah, he whines.
but i do see the change theyve been talking about, even if it's just in the quality of porn out there. i read this article a few months ago about how porn producers hate the industry because there's so much competition there's no place left for art or cinematography or stories in porn. and personally, i dont think anything ive seen online holds a candle to the opening of misty beethoven.... and i can see how people hold everyone to these impossible standards and women will hate themselves because of porn, but i dont think it's just porn. who needs porn when we have MTV... there's so many other stimulants out there telling all of us that cellulite is not natural and nipples are eternally hard. to me that's the tragedy, that "porn" style has leaked into all of society and kids today most likely grow up never seeing an actual real breast on TV or in the movies.

but then again, the best lover i've ever had litterally grew up with internet porn.... and to a certain extent, who cares what fantasies are flying through his bloodless mind at the time?

but i can also wax nostalgic about the mystery of the naked body. can you imagine someone thinking your body is like the most amazing thing in the whole world and youre just like magical for being naked? the argument could definitly be made that i run with the wrong crowd if i'm after sexual purity, but i think the idea of nakedness as sexy in and of itself sounds lovely. i hate all this focus on butts and abbs and plastic. i think suicide girls are great. its a return to the real. i really could go on and on about this forever... but i have too much work to do.
