It's true. Forty years ago he enlisted in Vietnam to further his political career, volunteering for SWIFT boat duty because he heard it was light work, then when it turned out it was superdangerous, he deliberately steered his boat into firefights, endangering the lives of his crew. Of course, there wasn't actually any enemy fire, rather, the "incoming" fire was faked by Lupus, in addition to the grenade that he threw in order to injure himself in order to leave early, abandoning his crew to the deadly but imaginary firefights after only three injuries to get medals which he threw away and then kept secretly while protesting the war to further his political career.
