You know you're living in a paternalistic society when even bookstores are designed so that you have to ask for help. No alphabetical order, no coherent subject classifications, not even a Dewey-esque decimal system: just some obscure combination of publishing house and date, requiring, essentially, access to the store computer or hands-on experience as a clerk.

You will not read what you want to read! You will not think or explore! You will not grow! Damn you and your potential social mobility!

Or maybe the orderly chaos is enticing...
